Study programs
In Karkku Evangelical College we offer a wide range of different study programs: upper secondary school, vocational education in wilderness and nature guide services, Finnish language courses, integration training for migrants, basic education for immigrants, a three-month Bible study course and versatile weekend and summer courses.
Karkku Evangelical College is a Christian folk high school founded in 1918. Our school is situated in the midst of Finnish countryside. The venue is peaceful and pictoresque. Lake Rautavesi lies at the back of our estate and our students can enjoy sauna and swimming throughout the year!
During the weeks our school is filled with students in our long study programs. A colorful mix of people of different ages and interests occupy the estate at the weekends and during holidays in our short courses and camps.
Our college is known for its tasty food and the kitchen staff is ready to help with different food allergies.
The spirit of our school is made up of warm welcoming, genuine care, community spirit and Christian faith.
Upper secondary school
In our upper secondary school you can study according to the Finnish upper secondary school syllabus and after that attend the matriculation examination. When you graduate, you will get a matriculation examination certificate and / or a upper secondary education certificate. With these certificates, you are eligible to applying for higher education institutions in Finland (universities or universities of applied sciences).
Our upper secondary school is part of our folk high school. This means that you become part of a warm community. Each student studies according to their personal study plan which adjusts to their personal goals and situation in life. The teaching groups are small, teachers know their students well and support their learning in every possible way. In our community, there is always someone ready to lend a helping hand.
”In this school everyone knew each other and you always got help when needed. During the exam weeks, we often rowed a boat or played tennis with friends after the exams.” – Giulia
Entrance requirements
The upper secondary school curriculum builds upon the Finnish basic education curriculum. Our curriculum follows the national upper secondary school curriculum for adults. We can accept students under 18 years old based on personal reasons related to health or general situation in life. All applicants are interviewed before acceptance.

In addition to compulsory study units, we offer a range of optional national study units and our own local study units. In mathematics you can follow either the basic or advanced syllabus. English is taught as a compulsory advanced syllabus. Optional languages are Swedish and German.
The lessons are daily from 8.20 am to 3.20 pm. Each lesson is 80 minutes long. After the lessons we offer free time activities (such as sports, arts, music, Bible study). Regular attendance to these earns you study credits.
We work in co-operation with Tampere Summer University which offers our students online university courses.
